13 Words That Will Increase Your Influence With Prospects And Candidates In The Next 7 Days
13 Sales Words That Can Help You Sell More
Making sales is important for any business, whether online or offline. Whether you’re communicating verbally face-to-face or writing copy that will be plastered all over the internet, words count.
And just like Animal Farm, some words count more than others.
Below are 13 words and phrases that can help you make more sales.
1. You
“You” is a powerful word because it makes any sentence directly relevant to the person reading or listening.
It signals that the communicator is focused on YOU — and only you — as the reader or listener.
Did you notice I wrote this article for you? Yes, you!
Example: You have the opportunity to drive away in this brand-new Lexus Coupe for just £59,995. You only have today to take advantage of this offer. That’s just six more hours for you to get down to our showroom.
2. Value
When you use the word “value”, you conjure up emotions tied to prestige, importance, and getting your money’s worth.
Who doesn’t like a bargain? “Value” also signals that if something is valuable, others will value it too — and you might miss out if you don’t act.
Example: If you value peace of mind for your family, invest in Acme Life Insurance before this offer ends.
3. And (Rather Than But)
When you use the word “but” in a sentence, it often negates what came before it in the reader or listener’s mind.
“And” keeps the flow positive and forward-looking.
Example:
- ❌ We have three rooms available in the hotel, but we need a two-night deposit paid first.
- ✅ We have three rooms available in the hotel and we will need a two-night deposit paid first.
4. Do (Rather Than Try)
“Do” suggests action and completion; “try” suggests hesitation and failure.
Example: Please do take advantage of the 14-day free trial of our recruitment software.
5. Or
“Or” frames choices and makes it feel like there are only a few options — which can be powerful in sales.
Example: We have iPhone 11s or the iPhone 11 SE. Or, if you prefer Android, we have the Google Pixel 4 in stock too.
6. Should We
Technically a phrase, not a word — but “should we” is excellent for closing without being pushy.
Example: It’s a mighty fine car. I’m glad you enjoyed the test drive. Should we start getting the paperwork sorted so you can get on the road?
7. Consensus
“Consensus” isn’t an obvious sales word, but it taps into our natural desire to conform to group norms.
Example: The consensus is that Goldie Locks shampoo improves hair strength and volume after just one wash.
8. Imagine
“Imagine” invites readers to step into a better future — one you’re helping them see.
Example: Imagine being collected by a chauffeur, whisked to the airport, and starting your holiday stress-free. Imagine how relaxing using AlphaBeta Taxi could be.
9. Show
“Show” implies demonstration and invites visualisation — before any actual demo takes place.
Example: Shall I show you how the Bullshit Buster 3000 will revolutionise your life, save you money, and attract the partner of your dreams?
10. Their Name
The sweetest sound to anyone is their own name. Using someone’s name creates trust and attention.
Example: Karen, thank you for raising this. Karen, is there any way I can keep you as a customer?
11. Because
When used correctly, “because” provides a justification and removes friction — even when addressing objections like price.
Example: Yes, this is the most expensive SUV-Campervan crossover on the market, because we invested heavily in top-of-the-range safety features.
12. Opportunity
“Opportunity” sparks excitement and urgency — it asks the brain to imagine “what if?”.
Example: Today, you have an opportunity to buy one of the last remaining mint-condition first editions of White Dwarf Magazine Issue 1.
13. Power Words Like ‘Hero’
Call someone a hero and they’ll swell with pride. It appeals to ego and the desire to be seen as important.
Example: You’d be my hero if you could take the last three boxes.
Final Thoughts
These words are all powerful sales tools, whether you’re talking face-to-face or writing copy online.
And if you combine them, you’ll create the opportunity to show the value you bring — and your boss will see you as the hero you already are.
