The Highway of Death: The A75, a mark of shame on both Holyrood and Westminster

The A75 connects trade between mainline UK and Northern Ireland.

It is the only main road that connects the towns of Dumfries and Galloway.

It is the only road that all the trucks taking all the goods to and from Northern and Republic of Ireland and Mainline UK travel.

It is an essential route for trade and commerce for the UK, helps ferry tourists in the Galloway region, and it is only two lanes.

Yep, two lanes. One lane each way (with the occasional passing spot).

It feels like in the year 2023 a road that is as important as there should be two lanes in both directions.

The amount of death that is visited upon the A75 due to its heavy traffic use, especially amongst lorry drives who overtake dangerously.

This lack of adequate road infrastructure holds the region's economy and makes driving in the area more dangerous than it needs to be.

If this was near Edinburgh or London, this would have been sorted out a long time ago.
