Quick Book Review - Beyond the Northlands by Eleanor Rosamund Barraclough

Just finished this wonderful book that took me far longer to read than expected. Eleanor Rosamund Barraclough has written a beautiful and captivity homage to the Icelandic sagas and how they teach us about Viking/Norse history across 500-plus years.

From the ice, and chilly colds of North America to the hot desert sands of the Middle East, the book weaves history, myth and tall tales into one excellent book.

The fascination in each chapter is always new and interesting. From learning about how many Norwegian Kings had a thing for trolls to the rather devilish way Vikings treated their slaves on the way to market in Constantinople and Baghdad to the way Vikings set the modern foundation of the Russian state.

It is all in this book, as told through the sagas and of course, via the ever-raided Lindisfarne.

If you see it. Buy it. Read it. Available on Amazon
