My New Microhobby: Mushroom Photography
Mushrooms have become a microhobby of mine. I am a Fungi!
And I already have enough hobbies.
However, this hobby is really neat. I take pictures of mushrooms I see out and about and then try to identify them in my Collins Gem books on Mushrooms.
Sometimes I also post them on Instagram (much to the amusement of my mates). Yes, I have mates. Yes, I am a man in my 40s who has mates. No, I have not invented them for this article.
What is a Microhobby?
I am not sure, I believe this might have just been invented by me right now. Let me go and check the internet.
Checking Internet Noises
Blast! I have not invented the 'Microhobby'. It already existed.
This article from Medium is a great deeper dive into the Microhobby.
What other 'Micro' Hobbies do I have?
This is an interesting question. So far, I have identified the following hobbies/microhobbies.
- Buying books I never read.
- Looking at the new releases on Warhammer.com.
- Re-reading the same book to my toddler 5 times in a row before breakfast (which I secretly love).
- Painting Warhammer models.
- Making YouTube Videos about the Warhammer models I have painted.
- Using my Kettlebells three times a week.
- Telling people I use Kettlebells.
- Spotting bus numbers with my Toddler when in the car.
- Writing the occasional blog post on Home Working Henry
To Round Up
Anyway, my Microhobby is looking at Mushrooms, taking a photo, posting it on Instagram and trying to identify the mushroom in my book.
It is a simple hobby, a simple and small Microhobby.
We all need a few Microhobbies in our lives that are not all-encompassing or time-intensive. Small hobbies that add little moments of joy to our days.
And most importantly, cannot become a 'Hustle'.
We have also written a number of books, digital downloads, and can follow Home Working Henry on [LinkedIn}(tab:https://www.linkedin.com/in/josephdavidhenry/), Instagram, Tik Tok, and X.
